Cutter Haddock Holds Change of Command Tuesday

SAN DIEGO (PADET San Diego) – Lt. Reyna Hernandez will be relieved by Lt.j.g. Thomas Brittingham as the commanding officer of the Coast Guard Cutter Haddock during a change of command ceremony Tuesday, at 10 a.m., at Sector San Diego.

Hernandez’s first assignment was onboard cutter Decisive in Pascagoula, Miss., where she served as a deck watch officer and first lieutenant. Following Decisive, the Roswell, N.M., native served as executive officer of the Coast Guard Cutter Monomoy which is forward deployed to the Persian Gulf in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. In August 2006, she assumed command of Haddock as the cutter’s third commanding officer.

Her military awards include the Global War on Terror Service Medal, the Iraqi Campaign Medal, the Coast Guard Achievement Medal, and the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal.

Brittingham is a native of Valparaiso, Fla. He graduated from the Coast Guard Academy in 2006 with a bachelors in Mechanical Engineering. His first assignment was onboard the Coast Guard Cutter Sequoia in Apra Harbor, Guam, where he served as a deck watch officer and Coast Guard diver.
Brittingham’s military awards include the Commandant’s Letter of Commendation Ribbon, Coast Guard Meritorious Team Commendation Ribbon, and the Coast Guard Special Operations Ribbon.
