Cutter Confidence returns to Port Canaveral

PORT CANAVERAL, Fla.- The Coast Guard Cutter Confidence returned to its home port in Port Canaveral, Monday morning after a 43-day patrol in the Windward Passage and Florida Straits.

During the patrol Confidence conducted alien migrant interdiction operations and counter-narcotics operations. Confidence crewmembers were involved in two high-speed chases of go-fast vessels suspected of illegal smuggling, and assisted in the transportation of contraband and four detainees from a separate case that occurred in the Caribbean to agents in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Confidence also hosted a number of temporarily assigned personnel, which included aviation detachments from Air Station Miami and Air Station Borinquen, Puerto Rico, and three cadets from the United States Coast Guard Academy in New London, Conn. The cadets spent the entire patrol underway, integrating with the crew and gaining valuable exposure and experience for their future assignments.
