SACRAMENTO, Calif. – At 6 p.m. a 150-foot barge carrying a crane heading to Richmond, allided with four uncharged power lines in the Sacramento River one mile south of the Port of Sacramento.
The uncharged power lines are being recovered out of the water by Pacific Gas and Electric, and pose no immediate threat to the boating public. No vessel traffic has been schedule to transit within the area for the next three days.
The Sacramento Fire Department arrived on scene at 7 p.m. to respond to the incident. No injuries were reported of the crew onboard the tugboat pushing the barge. A U.S. Coast Guard Sector San Francisco investigator was dispatched to the scene to assess the situation. No damage was sustained to the crane, tugboat or barge during the incident.
The tugboat was scheduled to deliver the crane and barge to Richmond and then dock at Pier 50 in San Francisco.
The cause of the incident is under investigation. Further updates will be provided Friday morning.
