Couple and dog rescued from sandbar near Tillamook, Oregon

SEATTLE – A couple and their dog were rescued from a sandbar located in Netarts Bay near Tillamook, Ore., today.

The pair and their pet had stopped their car on route 101 near the bay. While they were on the beach, the incoming tide trapped them on a sandbar. A passing driver spotted the group and called to report the situation while maintaining sight with them.

Coast Guard Air Station Astoria launched an HH-60 helicopter crew to the scene. The helicopter crew landed and the couple and their dog were removed from the sandbar. No injuries were reported.

Beachgoers are reminded to stay aware of tide changes and to be careful of rip currents and debris that can be thrown up onto the beach by the waves.
