Countdown to Jacksonville Coast Guard Appreciation Day

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The U.S. Navy League will be hosting a Coast Guard Appreciation Day April 26 at Bings Landing Preserve adjacent the Washington Oaks State Park in Palm Coast, Fla., between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.

The public is welcome to come an honor the men and women of the Coast Guard who serve Northeast Florida and see first hand some of the tools and methods they use to complete their many missions. There will be a counter-narcotics demonstration, an aids to navigation ship on display, a demonstration by a Coast Guard bomb-dog team, and a helicopter rescue demonstration.

Food, drinks, and numerous other activities and displays will be available through out the day. Coast Guard merchandise will also be available with all proceeds going to benefit the Northeast Florida Chapter of the Chief Petty Officer’s Association. The CPOA’s mission is to support Coast Guard men and women and their families in times of need.

Personnel from Coast Guard Sector Jacksonville, Coast Guard Helicopter Interdiction Tactical Squadron Jacksonville, Coast Guard Air Station Savannah, Ga., Coast Guard Cutter Hammer from Mayport, Fla., Coast Guard Station Mayport, Coast Guard Maritime Safety and Security Team from Kings Bay, Ga., and Coast Guard Aids to Navigation Team Jacksonville Beach will all be participating in the event.

The schedule of events on April 26 is as follows:

* 8:00 a.m. Doors Open
* 8:30 am Navy Southeast Ceremonial Band Performs
* 9:00-9:15 Parade the Colors JROTC High Schools/ St. Augustine Navy League/Coast Guard
* 9:20-9:30 Pledge of Allegiance
* 9:30-10:00 Introductions of Coast Guard Sector Jacksonville, Helicopter Interdiction Tactical Squadron commanding officers

– JROTC $1000 Scholarship Award’s
