Coast Guardsmen dedicate flagpole to fallen petty officer in Humboldt Bay

Eureka, Calif. — Coast Guard Sector Humboldt Bay dedicated a flagpole in front of Coast Guard housing office to Petty Officer 3rd Class Kurt Kenneth Romero, an electricians mate and fallen shipmate, Friday.

Romero was born Dec. 2, 1984 and joined the Coast Guard in March 2014, where he served with honor and distinction until he passed away May 1, 2016.

The flagpole memorial was constructed by Romero’s coworkers, the Eureka Coast Guard housing office staff and led by Chief Petty Officer Frank Womack.

A plaque was made and donated by Ocean View Cemetery and the Lost Coast Chapter Chief Petty Officers Association.

The dedication serves to honor and celebrate the life and accomplishments of Romero, a highly regarded member of the Coast Guard and an upstanding citizen in the community. His mother Christy, brother Jeff, sister Kayce and other family members were in attendance along with members of Sector Humboldt Bay.
