Coast Guard’s largest training center changes command

YORKTOWN, Va. – The largest training command in the U.S. Coast Guard, located in Yorktown, will conduct the time-honored tradition of a Change of Command Ceremony Thursday.

Capt. Anne Ewalt will transfer command of the Training Center to Capt. William Milne.

The Change of Command Ceremony formally transfers the responsibilities, authority, and accountability from one officer to another.

The training center hosts more than 10,000 Coast Guard, Department of Defense and international students annually.

Ewalt graduated from the Coast Guard Academy in New London, Conn., in 1984 with a degree in Civil Engineering. She served aboard five Coast Guard cutters and was the commanding officer of three. She will continue her service as the Thirteenth District Chief of Staff in Seattle, Wash. She is married to Joe Ewalt, U.S. Coast Guard retired.

Milne enlisted in the Coast Guard in 1975 and graduated from Officer Candidate School in 1986. He has been commanding officer on three of the seven cutters he has served aboard. He is married to the former Martina Eckroth of North Dakota. They have two children, Lt.Cdr. Dean Milne and Mrs. Lacey Milne Yoho, and six grandchildren.
