Coast Guard, Wrighstville Beach Ocean Rescue saves 2 off Wrightsville Beach, NC

29 Cape DissapointmentWRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, N.C. — Coast Guard crews and Wrightsville Beach Ocean Rescue rescued two people Friday off Masonboro Inlet in Wrightsville Beach.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector North Carolina received a call from New Hanover 911, reporting a 17-foot boat taking on water on a rock jetty with a man and woman aboard.

A 29-foot Response Boat-Small crew launched from Coast Guard Station Wrightsville Beach in response and arrived on scene along with a member of Wrightsville Beach Ocean Rescue who was aboard a jet ski.

The man suffered scrapes and bruises on his arm and was taken by Ocean Rescue to Coast Guard Station Wrightsville Beach where he was seen by awaiting EMS. The female was taken to the station by the Coast Guard crew, and the boat was towed back to Wrightsville Beach Marina.

“Due to Station Wrightsville Beach’s close working relationship with Wrightsville Beach Ocean Rescue, we were able to resolve a hazardous situation with a positive outcome for the persons involved,” said Petty Officer 1st Class Eric D. Tucker, coxswain for the case.
