Coast Guard welcomes new commanding officer of Training Center Yorktown

YORKTOWN, Va. – Capt. Reed Stephenson assumed command of Coast Guard Training Center Yorktown during a change of command ceremony Wednesday.

Stephenson relieved Capt. William Milne, who served as the training center’s commanding officer since April 2009.

As commanding officer of TraCen Yorktown, Stephenson will be responsible for more than 800 military, civilian, and contract employees supporting 16 apprentice and specialty schools and an annual average of 8,000 Coast Guard, Department of Defense, and international officer and enlisted graduates.

Stephenson reported from the White House’s Military Office, where he had served as deputy director for training and evaluation.

Capt. Milne will report to Coast Guard Headquarters in Washington, D.C., where he will serve as director of law enforcement, maritime security and defense operations policy.

“It has been a distinct privilege to serve the men and women of Coast Guard Training Center Yorktown, where together we forge today’s leaders to execute tomorrow’s mission,” said Capt. Milne. “Mrs. Milne and I will miss the local community, the hard-working training center staff and students, and the fantastic view from our quarters overlooking the York River. We look forward to our fifth tour of duty in Washington, D.C., and relish the opportunity to be closer to our eight grandchildren living in Northern Virginia.”
