Coast Guard warns of severe weather entering northeast Florida area from Hurricane Gonzalo

d7ATLANTIC BEACH, Fla. — The Coast Guard advises mariners and beachgoers to exercise caution Tuesday while on or near the waters of Atlantic Beach, due to severe weather entering the area.

A National Weather Service report states that several showers and thunderstorms are expected to move into the area, prior to a cold front. Strong wind gusts are expected as well as south winds increasing throughout the night. Seas are expected to remain elevated into the weekend due to easterly swells from the distant Hurricane Gonzalo.

The Coast Guard’s primary concern at all times is the safety of persons at sea. Mariners are urged to exercise caution while transiting the area Tuesday afternoon and evening. Beachgoers are also encouraged to check local weather reports prior to engaging in water activities. Additionally, beachgoers can check with lifeguards for any further concerns.
