Coast Guard warns of potentially hazardous offshore weather

national weather serviceSAN FRANCISCO – The Coast Guard reminds boaters to exercise caution and safe boating within the waters of Northern California this Memorial Day weekend.

A small craft advisory and rough bar advisory are in effect for the offshore waters near San Francisco and Monterey Bay until Saturday morning.  The National Weather Service defines a small craft advisory as wind speeds of 21-to-33 knots that produce hazardous wave conditions to small craft.  A rough bar advisory means that wave conditions just outside the Golden Gate Bridge, and harbor entrances from San Francisco to Monterey, are expected to be hazardous to small craft.
