Coast Guard Warning Mariners of Harsh Weather

BOSTON – Coast Guard units throughout New England are warning mariners and preparing for a potentially dangerous storm expected to arrive offshore Thursday evening.

A Coast Guard HU-25 Falcon jet from Air Station Cape Cod is scheduled to fly over the Gulf of Maine this afternoon to warn boaters in the region via radio of the 55-knot winds and 21-foot seas forecasted to impact the Western Gulf of Maine Thursday night and Friday. Additionally, Coast Guard shore units are issuing safety broadcasts via VHF/FM radio.

Coastal and off-shore cutters and shore-based search and rescue stations have also augmented their status to an increased readiness.
