Coast Guard veteran to receive posthumous award

Buffalo – The family of U.S. Coast Guard Lt. Thomas J.E. Crotty, a World War II veteran, is scheduled to accept a posthumous Purple Heart Medal honoring Crotty’s service, Thursday, at approximately 12:30 p.m.

Crotty served in the Pacific Theater during World War II and gave his life in 1942 in defense of the United States.

The ceremony will take place as part of the 50th annual Western New York Armed Forces Week. The presentation is scheduled to occur after the Armed Forces Luncheon at the Connecticut Street Armory in Buffalo, N.Y. Rear Adm. Michael Parks, commander, Ninth Coast Guard District, will present the medal.
