PORTSMOUTH, Va. – The Coast Guard strongly urges boaters and surfers to exercise extreme caution returning to the water in the days following Tropical Storm Hanna’s landfall.
Even without the strong winds associated with the storm, maritime conditions may remain dangerous. Strong rip tides may still be present along beaches, and the potential exists for minor flooding in bays, sounds and inland waterways.
Buoys and other aids to navigation may have moved or become inoperable as well. Boaters are encouraged to monitor VHF Channel 16 for news and updates.
