Coast Guard units searching for missing swimmer near La Jolla

SAN DIEGO – U.S. Coast Guard crews are searching for an overdue swimmer near La Jolla, Calif., who has been missing since Saturday evening.

The Coast Guard received the report at approximately 6 p.m., Saturday, that Jim Repetto, a 53-year-old Massachusetts man, was swimming from Scripps Pier to the La Jolla shores lifeguard tower and was more than an hour overdue.

The Coast Guard launched an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter and a 33-foot response boat to search the area for the missing man. Coast Guard Cutter Haddock, an 87-foot patrol boat, was also diverted to assist with the search.

Coast Guard crews, along with San Diego Lifeguards and Fire-Rescue Department, searched last night, and continue today.
