Coast Guard transports injured man near Oak Island, NC

29 Cape DissapointmentWILMINGTON, N.C. — The Coast Guard transported an injured man and two EMS personnel Saturday from Bald Head Island to Southport.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Station Oak Island received a request from Bald Head Island Fire Department at about 1 a.m. for transport of the 35-year-old man who suffered a head injury.

Station Oak Island watchstanders notified Coast Guard Sector North Carolina in Wilmington and launched a 29-foot Response Boat-Small crew. The crew picked up the man and the medical personnel at about 1:27 a.m.

The RBS crew took the passengers to Deep Point Marina in Southport where the injured man was transferred to awaiting local EMS.

“We were glad to be able to help the Bald Head Island Fire Department medics get this man to shore to receive the care he needed,” said Chief Petty Officer Erich White, Station Oak Island Executive Petty Officer. “We always stand ready to respond to maritime emergencies and to assist our partner agencies whenever possible.”
