Coast Guard Transports Injured Man from Bahamas to Miami

MIAMI – A Coast Guard HH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew from Air Station Clearwater, Fla., deployed in support of Operation Bahamas Turks and Caicos (OPBAT) is transporting a 64-year-old man from Farmers Cay, Bahamas, to Jackson Memorial Hospital after he suffered serious injuries to his hand Wednesday.

Dewey Swain, of Charleston, S.C., suffered serious injuries to his hand after getting it caught in the anchor chain of his 54-foot sailboat, Kabbalah, near Exuma Island, Bahamas.

Search and rescue coordinators at the District Seven Command Center in Miami were contacted by a third party at about 12:15 p.m., stating Swain suffered serious injuries in a boating accident.

The Coast Guard helicopter with the injured man is scheduled to arrive at Jackson Memorial Hospital around 4 p.m.
