Coast Guard transports ailing infant from Ocracoke, NC

Cape Disappointment 29-foot Response Boat SmallWILMINGTON, N.C. — The Coast Guard transported an infant and mother Thursday from Okracoke to awaiting EMS in Hatteras.

Hyde County Sheriff personnel notified watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector North Carolina in Wilmington of a 10-month-old girl suffering respiratory distress and requested transport at approximately 9:10 p.m.

A 29-foot Response Boat-Small crew launched from Coast Guard Station Hatteras Inlet at about 9:15 p.m., arrived at Okracoke at about 9:40 p.m., and transported the infant, mother and a Hyde County paramedic back to Small Boat Station Hatteras Inlet, arriving at approximately 10 p.m.

An awaiting Hyde County EMS crew transported the infant and her mother to Outer Banks Hospital in Nags Head.
