Coast Guard Training Center Firefighters Combat Summit Fires

ALAMEDA, Calif. – A fire team from Coast Guard Training Center Petaluma joined other fire departments throughout California on Friday to respond to the Summit Fires in the Santa Cruz Mountains.

The team spent twenty-four hour shifts on Friday and today addressing hot spots and securing fire lines around homes that had been evacuated. Fire hazards include dry and dead vegetation, wood and paper garbage.

The teams used picks, shovels and other tools, as well as water to secure hot spots.
