Coast Guard tows disabled sailing vessel to Coos Bay, Ore.

Coast Guard District 13 NewsSEATTLE — A Coast Guard 47-foot motor lifeboat crew from Station Coos Bay, Ore., is towing the disabled sailing vessel Nakahara Maru to Coos Bay, Sunday.

Coast Guard Group North Bend, Ore., received a call from the only member on board the 59-foot Nakahara Maru at 11:06 a.m., stating the vessel had suffered a steering malfunction approximately 11 miles northwest of Cape Blanco, Ore.

Air Station North Bend launched an HH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew and Station Coos Bay launched a 47-foot motor lifeboat crew.

The helicopter crew arrived on scene at approximately 3 p.m. with the motor lifeboat crew only minutes behind.

The helicopter crew made an initial assessment and then deferred to the motor lifeboat crew. The motor lifeboat crew took the Nakahara Maru in tow and is currently en route to Coos Bay.

No injuries were reported.
