Coast Guard tows a vessel 3 nautical miles southwest of Freemason Island

NEW ORLEANS – The Coast Guard towed a disabled vessel 3 nautical miles southwest of Freemason Island, Louisiana, Saturday.

Coast Guard Sector Mobile watchstanders were notified at 7:00 p.m. Friday that a mariner’s boat had broken down but were unable to establish communication with the mariner.

A Coast Guard Aviation Training Center HC-144 Ocean Sentry aircrew was deployed at 10:30 p.m. to drop a radio to reestablish communications with the mariner.

A Coast Guard Station Gulfport 45-foot Response Boat-Medium boatcrew was launched at 1:05 a.m. and arrived on scene at 3:20 a.m. and took the vessel in tow.

The boatcrew successfully towed the mariner and his vessel back to Gulfport at 9:22 a.m.

There were no reported injuries.
