Coast Guard to transfer operational control of Station Ocean City, Md.

5th Coast Guard District News
BALTIMORE — The Coast Guard will shift operational control of Coast Guard Station Ocean City from Coast Guard Sector Hampton Roads to Coast Guard Sector Baltimore Tuesday.

This move is intended to improve field-level operations in the region, to improve all-hazard response challenges and to provide a single interface point for state and local officials.

Effective Oct. 1, Capt. Kevin Kiefer, the commander of Coast Guard Sector Baltimore will assume operational control of Station Ocean City and Cmdr. Scott Kelly will become the officer in charge of Marine Inspections for the station.

“Essentially, we are transferring Ocean City to Sector Baltimore in order to put all the stations in the state of Maryland under one Coast Guard sector control,” said Kiefer. “The state asked us to do this for emergency preparedness, since operations will be easier to coordinate with one sector vice two.”
