ANCHORAGE, Alaska – Coast Guard personnel from around the state will participate in several discussion panels during the 2009 Alaska Forum on the Environment Conference Monday through Thursday at the Dena’ina and Egan Convention Centers.
A panel discussion on climate change, current operations and potential next steps will include Rear Adm. Gene Brooks, commander District Seventeen; Bob Corell, Heinz Center for Science, Economics, and the Environment; Larry Hartig, commissioner, Alaska Dept. of Environmental Conservation; and Chair, Governor’s Sub-Cabinet on Climate Change. This event is scheduled for Monday, 10:30 a.m. – 11:45 a.m. in the Arteaga Room of the Egan Center.
Additional Coast Guard presentations at the Egan Center include:
– Cmdr. Rick Rodriguez, District Seventeen, will give a presentation on Coast Guard Arctic operations Wednesday 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
– Cmdr. Shane Montoya, District Seventeen, will be moderating five session on Arctic issues at various times between Tuesday and Thursday.
– Lt. Cmdr. Patrick Barelli, District Seventeen, will be moderating a presentation on living marine resources and efforts to preserve the marine environment Wednesday 3:30 p.m. to 4:45 p.m.
– Senior Chief Marine Science Technician Paul Moyer, Sector Anchorage, will give a presentation on arctic oil spill response Thursday 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
Coast Guard Sector Anchorage will host a booth on the third floor of the Dena’ina Center and have personnel available to discuss Coast Guard environmental missions and response operations.
The Alaska Forum on the Environment is a statewide gathering of environmental scientists and professionals from government agencies, non-profit and for-profit businesses, community leaders, Alaskan youth, conservationists, biologists and community elders.
