Coast Guard To Participate In Middle School Maritime Fair

FT. MYERS BEACH, Fla. – The Coast Guard is scheduled to participate in a “Maritime Fair” at Cypress Lake Middle School, in Ft. Myers, Fla., from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. on May 7.

Crewmembers from Coast Guard Station Ft. Myers Beach and local Coast Guard Auxiliary members will conduct boating safety presentations and a Coast Guard 25-foot rescue boat will also be on display.

The students and staff of Cypress Lake Middle School are participating in a reading event entitled One Book-One School. Everyone at the school is reading the book “The Wanderer”, by Sharon Creech. The novel is a story about a family’s trip across the Atlantic Ocean to England in a 45-foot sailboat. While on the boat, the family members grow personally because of the challenges they face as they cross the Atlantic Ocean.

The Coast Guard proudly supports community involvement and strongly urges boaters to boat smart and wear a lifejacket.
