Coast Guard to participate in Chicamacomico Heroes’ Day

HATTERAS ISLAND, N.C. – The Coast Guard is scheduled to participate in the 4th annual Chicamacomico Life-Saving Station American Heroes’ Day from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Thursday.

At 11 a.m., a helicopter rescue crew from Air Station Elizabeth City and a 47-foot motor lifeboat crew from Station Oregon Inlet will perform a search and rescue demonstration.

A Station Hatteras Inlet crew will host an interactive demonstration illustrating techniques for fixing vessel water leaks.

During the opening ceremonies of the event, the Coast Guard Ceremonial Honor Guard from Alexandria, Va., will post the colors, and Capt. Steve Weiden, Commanding Officer of the United States Coast Guard Joint Maritime Training Center in Camp Lejeune, will be a guest speaker.

A Coast Guard 25-foot response boat from Station Oregon Inlet will be on display throughout the day.
