Coast Guard to Offer Safety Exams in Remote Southeast Alaska

JUNEAU, Alaska – A team of Coast Guard examiners from Coast Guard Sector Juneau will visit the communities of Elfin Cove, Hoonah and Pelican to conduct voluntary safety exams on commercial fishing vessels and uninspected passenger vessels (UPVs). Commercial fishermen and UPV operators whose boats pass the exams will be less likely to face Coast Guard boardings at sea.

Teams of examiners will be in Hoonah from May 25-26, Elfin Cove from May 27-28, and in Pelican from May 29-30. Fishermen and UPV operators who wish to schedule safety exams should contact Larry Snyder at 907-463-2448 or 907-957-0153. Advanced scheduling is recommended.
