Coast Guard to offer free vessel safety checks and decals.

Each checked vessel will be awarded a U.S. Coast Guard/Auxiliary decal - valid through the end of the year - which signify that the vessel is in compliance with federal and state boating laws, and properly equipped with safety gear. It also informs other boating law-enforcement agencies that the vessel has been checked.

Boston – In honor of National Safe Boating Week, which runs from Saturday to May 23, 2015, U.S. Coast Guard Sector Southeastern New England and local Coast Guard Auxiliary units are providing free boating safety checks at events throughout the region.

The checks are offered to ensure boats are equipped with federally mandated safety gear designed to save lives and summon help during an emergency.
