Coast Guard to host STEM event for local schools in Portsmouth, VA

PORTSMOUTH, Va. — Coast Guard personnel from various units in the Hampton Roads region are scheduled to host a science, technology, engineering and math event at Coast Guard Base Portsmouth, Wednesday.

Approximately 100 students from Woodrow Wilson High School, Alliance Christian Academy and public home schools will rotate between four stations, including tours of Coast Guard cutters and discussions covering aviation, civil engineering, naval engineering, electronics, navigation, machinery, robotics, marine pollution, alternative energy and law enforcement.

The goal is to provide local Portsmouth high school students with the opportunity to learn about cutting-edge STEM applications routinely used by the Coast Guard.
