Coast Guard to Host Small Vessel Security Conference

ORLANDO – The U.S. Coast Guard will host the Southeastern Small Vessel Security Summit Saturday at the Florida Hotel and Conference Center in Orlando.

The objective of the one-day summit is to focus the broad southeastern regional stakeholder community on a range of issues and to launch continuing interactions regarding management of small vessel security risk in the U.S. maritime domain.

The Summit format will consist of plenary addresses by distinguished government leaders including Rear Adm. James Watson, Director of Prevention Policy at Coast Guard Headquarters; panel discussions by state and local maritime leaders from the southeastern United States; followed by a facilitated small vessel threat workshop.

The state of Florida has more registered motor vesselSthan any other state in the U.S. with approximately 988,000 registered recreational boats. Saturday’s activities are centered on providing a regional forum for small vessel operators, both commercial and recreational, to identify their U.S. maritime domain security issues and concerns specifically in the southeastern United States.
