Coast Guard to host small passenger vessel workshop in NC

5th Coast Guard District NewsWILMINGTON, N.C. — Members of the Coast Guard are scheduled to host a small passenger vessel workshop Monday at the Thomas A. Baum Senior Center in Kill Devil Hills.

The workshop will provide an opportunity for owners and operators of certificated passenger vessels to meet with Coast Guard inspectors to discuss various marine safety, security and vessel inspection topics.

Coast Guard Sector North Carolina hosts several workshops throughout the state on a recurring basis to maintain open lines of communications between the maritime industry, marine professionals, vessel owners and Coast Guard inspectors and investigators.

“These workshops are designed to get vessel owners, operators and Coast Guard personnel in the same room, at the same time, to discuss ways we can achieve our common goals of facilitating commerce in the most safe, secure, and expeditious manner,” said Lt. Cmdr. Chris Vargo, the inspections division chief at Sector North Carolina. “Coast Guard inspectors and investigators interact with individual vessel owners and operators on a daily basis; however, these workshops usually spawn group discussions that help clarify complex regulations and promote consistency across the entire fleet.”

Those interested in attending may contact Lt. Stephen Taylor at 252-441-0300, ext. 113.
