San Diego Coast Guard City logoSAN DIEGO — Coast Guard Sector San Diego personnel are scheduled to host an open house event August 4, from 10 a.m. to noon at the sector, located at 2710 North Harbor Drive.

The free event will welcome members of the community onto the base to see Coast Guard helicopters, small boats, cutters and equipment. Attendees will be able to interact with the Coast Guard men and women who conduct daily operations in the San Diego area.

There is also a live search and rescue demonstration offshore scheduled.

“It is a great honor to serve in Coast Guard City San Diego,” said Capt. Joseph Buzzella, the commander of Coast Guard Sector San Diego. “We are the guardians of the Southwest and this open house gives the community an opportunity to meet the Coast Guard San Diego men and women and view up close the assets used to keep safe and secure this great part of our nation.”

The event coincides with the Coast Guard’s 227th birthday and is part of the continuing celebration of San Diego’s designation as a Coast Guard City.
