Coast Guard to Hold Transfer of Command Ceremony

CHINCOTEAGUE, Va. – The Coast Guard will hold a transfer of command ceremony at the Herbert H. Bateman Education and Administrative Center, located at the Chincoteague National Refuge Park in Assateague Island, Va., Thursday at 10 a.m.

The ceremony will officially transfer command of Sector Field Office Eastern Shore to the Commander of Sector Hampton Roads. The move will fully integrate SFO Eastern Shore into the sector organization, bringing the Coast Guard one step closer to its goal to full operating capability. Lt. Cmdr. Dana Reid, commanding officer of SFO Eastern Shore, will transfer command to Captain Patrick Trapp, Commander Sector Hampton Roads.

Following the events of September 11, 2001, lessons were learned to improve the way the Coast Guard interacted with partner agencies in protecting the United States against all hazards and threats. The Coast Guard created sector units by integrating various Coast Guard commands historically divided amongst various operational commands under one sector commander. This aligned the organization with other federal and state agencies while providing improved service to the nation.

After completing a two-year tour of duty as the last Commander of SFO Eastern Shore, Reid will report to Coast Guard Group Port Angeles, Wash., as surface operations officer this summer.
