Coast Guard to hold groundbreaking ceremony in Yorktown, Va.

PORTSMOUTH, Va – Coast Guard Training Center Yorktown is scheduled to hold a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a new training facility Thursday.

Samuel Travis Hall, the new training facility, will be the future location of Training Center Yorktown’s Engineering Systems School for the electrician’s mate, gunner’s mate and machinery technician ratings.

“We are very excited to see this project move forward and pleased to have the opportunity to continue supporting our engineers and technicians throughout the fleet,” said Chief Warrant Officer Jon Phillips, the Engineering Systems School chief. “Future students will have significant hands-on training opportunities with advanced diesel propulsion and engineering systems that will support their efforts to maintain the Coast Guard’s newest classes of cutters.”
