Coast Guard to hold educational exposition for local students

14th Coast Guard District NewsHONOLULU — Several Oahu-based Coast Guard units are scheduled to take part in an educational exposition for local high school students at Coast Guard Base Support Unit Honolulu on Friday.

The Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Exposition is a collaborative initiative to promote core technological fields and develop future innovators.

Approximately 100 students from Governor Wallace Rider Farrington High School, Kahuku High School, home-schooled children and a student for Kauai High School will have an opportunity to visit Coast Guard boats and helicopters and interact with Coast Guardsmen from various shore and afloat units.

“We look forward to showcasing the various missions of the Coast Guard each year to the students. It gives them a better understanding of what the Coast Guard does,” said Cmdr. Maria Galman, the S.T.E.M. coordinator for the 14th Coast Guard District.

An MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Air Station Barbers Point is scheduled to conduct a search and rescue demonstration in Honolulu Harbor following the exposition.

The S.T.E.M. exposition at Sand Island is not open to the public.
