Coast Guard to hold commercial fishing safety day in San Pedro

San Pedro, Calif. – The Coast Guard will be holding a commercial fishing safety day in conjunction with the Blessing of the Fleet on Saturday June 23, 2007 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at berth 73 in San Pedro.

The event will cover safety requirements for commercial fishing vessels and include safety equipment demonstrations. Coast Guard vessel inspectors will be on-hand to answer questions.

Fishermen will have the opportunity to practice donning survival suits, operate de-watering equipment, and practice their plugging and patching skills in a damage control trainer.

A Coast Guard helicopter demonstration is scheduled for 12 p.m. over the LA Harbor main channel just off of berth 73. Coast Guard boats will be on display and public tours will be available aboard a Coast Guard patrol boat.

While geared toward the fishing community the event is open to the public.

Questions regarding the Commercial Fishing Safety Day may be directed to Mr. Jack Gaskill at (310) 732-2062.
