Coast Guard to hold Article 32 hearing in Juneau

Coast Guard District 17 NewsJUNEAU, Alaska — In accordance with the Uniform Code of Military Justice, the Coast Guard has scheduled an Article 32 hearing for Lt. Lance Leone, who has been charged with violating five punitive articles of the UCMJ, for Dec. 7, 2011 at 9 a.m. in the court room on the 9th floor of the Hurff Ackermann Saunders Federal Building in Juneau.

The Article 32 hearing will be open to the public and the media. The ground rules for attending the hearing are as follows:

• Media members attending the hearing must inform the Coast Guard External Affairs office at (907) 463-2065

• No recording devices of any kind will be allowed in the hearing room including, but not limited to, still cameras, audio and video recording devices.

• Cell phones and pagers must be turned off in the hearing room.

• Media members may bring a notepad and pen into the hearing room.

• Once the article 32 hearing has commenced no one is permitted to enter or depart the hearing room until the investigation officer calls for a recess or if there is an emergency.

• No loitering will be permitted in the hallways near the hearing room during closed sessions or during recess.

• Visitors attending the hearing must not interfere with regular Coast Guard business.

Any violations of the ground rules may result in the visitor being asked to leave the hearing.

Anyone interested in attending the hearing is encouraged to arrive early as they will need to pass though a security checkpoint in order to enter the federal building and another security checkpoint in order to enter the courtroom.
