Coast Guard to establish temporary regulated navigation area for Red Bull Air Race

NEW YORK — Coast Guard Sector New York will establish a temporary regulated navigation area on the Hudson River near Liberty State Park and Ellis Island for the Red Bull Air Race World Championship between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m., June 16 -20.

Viewing areas will be established Saturday, June 19 and Sunday June 20.

Boaters should be prepared to maintain position without anchoring, as they will not be authorized to anchor at any time during the event. Waters outside of the regulated area will remain open to boat traffic.

The Coast Guard Cutter Katherine Walker will control access to the regulated area and monitor VHF-FM channels 13 and 16 during the event. Coast Guard and local law enforcement personnel stationed in the vicinity of Ellis Island will provide on-scene guidance to boaters.

Boaters are advised that there will be a significant increase in marine traffic Saturday, June 19 and Sunday, June 20 from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Boaters not directly involved in the Red Bull Air Race should avoid the area between the Battery, Ellis and Liberty Islands during this period.

The pre-established 150-yard security zones around Liberty and Ellis Islands will be in effect at all times, and no marine traffic will be permitted to enter this area.
