Coast Guard to enforce security zone during 2008 Boat Parade of Lights

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Coast Guard personnel will enforce a special local regulation that will close a portion of the Savannah River to protect boaters and vessels from hazards associated with the 2008 Boat Parade of Lights.

The regulation will be in effect Friday from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. It will encompass all waters of the Savannah River between the U.S. Highway 17 Talmadge Bridge three-quarters of a mile down river from the Westin Hotel.

Entry into the regulated area by any person or vessel other than event participants is prohibited unless otherwise authorized by the Coast Guard Captain of the Port of Savannah. If entry is authorized, all persons and vessels must obey orders or directions by the Coast Guard. The on-scene patrol commander may be contacted on VHF-FM channel 23A or by phone at 912-247-0088.
