Coast Guard to enforce rocket launch safety zone near Kodiak Island

17th Coast Guard District NewsKODIAK, Alaska – The Coast Guard will establish a safety zone in the vicinity of Narrow Cape and Ugak Island near Kodiak Island for the launch of a U.S. Air Force Minotaur IV Rocket at the Kodiak Launch Complex Tuesday.

The safety zone is in effect between 7:40 a.m. and 10 a.m. or until cancelled.

The safety zone includes all navigable waters contained within the area bordered by the following points: 57° 29.04′ north, 152° 16.97′ west; 57° 26.93′ north, 151° 52.88′ west; 57° 09.98′ north, 152° 11.91′ west; 57° 21.94′ north, 152° 25.34′ west; 57° 29.04′ north, 152° 16.97′ west.

The Coast Guard Cutter Long Island crew will patrol the area to ensure mariners do not transit in the safety zone. A Coast Guard Air Station Kodiak HC-130 Hercules airplane crew will provide aerial weather observations before the launch.

Entry into or through this zone is strictly prohibited. Unauthorized entry may result in civil and, or criminal penalties, including fines of up to $37,500.
