Coast Guard to demonstrate search and rescue capabilities Saturday at Metro Park in Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Coast Guard will establish a temporary safety zone Saturday from 12 p.m. -12:30 p.m. on the St. Johns River, between the Hart Bridge and the Main Street Bridge for a Coast Guard search and rescue demonstration.

The search and rescue demonstration will display the Coast Guard’s capabilities for rescues that involve a rescue helicopter and a rescue swimmer. During the demonstration, a Coast Guard aviation survival technician will be deployed into the St. Johns River.

Coast Guard aviation survival technicians are relied upon to perform search and rescue, and basic EMT procedures to boaters, fishermen and others who require emergency assistance.

Members of the Coast Guard will be on hand to answer questions on how best to avoid emergency situations that would require a Coast Guard rescue swimmer.
