Coast Guard to conduct pyrotechnics training near Verrazano Bridge

NEW YORK – Coast Guard crews are scheduled to conduct pyrotechnics training near the Verrazano Bridge today from 7:15 p.m. to 8:15 p.m.

“It’s a training exercise required annually for our crews,” said Chief Warrant Officer Donald Tucker, Coast Guard Station New York’s operations officer. “We’ll be shooting red pencil flares and parachute flares right off the seawall at our station.”

The station is located about a mile west of the Verrazano Bridge on Staten Island.

Mariners can tune in the VHF Channel 16 for an informational broadcast issued by the Coast Guard regarding the exercise.
