Coast Guard to conduct ice-breaking operations in Buffalo Outer Harbor, Southern Approach Channel

Great Lakes Coast Guard News
BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Coast Guard is advising Buffalo Outer Harbor area residents that ice-breaking operations are scheduled to be conducted in the area of Buffalo Outer Harbor and Southern Approach Channel to the Port of Buffalo, Sunday.

These ice-breaking evolutions are to support the arrival and departure of the motor vessel Algoma Enterprise transiting to the Port of Buffalo in Lackawanna, N.Y., via the Southern Approach Channel.

The estimated time of arrival in Buffalo is early morning Sunday, and the motor vessel will be leaving approximately 12 hours after arrival.

Any ice in this area should be considered unsafe and the Coast Guard advises everyone to stay clear. Due to ice-congested waters of Lake Erie, the vessel may be delayed and ice-breaking operations may commence at a later time with little, or no, notice.
