ASTORIA, Ore. — The Coast Guard medevaced a man who fell off a horse and became seriously injured approximately one mile south of Pacific City, Ore., Sunday.
Coast Guard Sector Columbia River received an agency assist request from Tillamook County at approximately 12:35 p.m., stating a man was too severely injured to move by foot in an isolated part of Bob Straub State Park, near the entrance to Nestucca Bay, Ore.
Sector Columbia River launched an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Astoria. The helicopter crew stopped at Pacific City Airport and picked up a Tillamook County paramedic before arriving on scene and lowering a rescue swimmer. The swimmer helped other on scene Tillamook County paramedics prepare the man for a hoist.
The helicopter crew then hoisted the injured man to the helicopter where the awaiting paramedic helped the crew administer an IV and ensure a safe transfer of the man after the crew transported him to Tillamook County Hospital.
The man reportedly has injuries to his neck and spine.
