MIAMI — A Coast Guard Station Fort Lauderdale 33-foot Special Purpose Craft-Law Enforcement boatcrew terminated the voyage of a 20-foot pleasure craft with six passengers aboard in the vicinity of Lake Santa Barbara, Saturday.
The operator of the vessel was cited for the following violations:
- Violation of 33 C.F.R. 95. for operating a vessel under the influence.
- Violation of 46 U.S.C. 230. for gross negligent operations.
“The Coast Guard reminds boaters of the dangers of operating vessels while under the influence of alcohol as it decreases the operator’s ability to make sound judgments,” said Petty Officer First Class Emily Wilhite, Sector Miami command center watchstander. “Anyone operating a vessel under the influence places the safety and security of other innocent boaters at risk.”
The Station boatcrew safely escorted the 20-foot pleasure craft to the 14th Street Boat Ramp.
