Coast Guard Terminates Fishing Vessel Operation

LOS ANGELES — Crew members from Coast Guard Cutter Blacktip, home-ported in Oxnard, Calif., terminated the fishing operations of the 37-foot commercial fishing vessel The Lady Aline today off the coast of Santa Cruz Island.

During a routine safety boarding, crew members from the Blacktip discovered that The Lady Aline did not have an emergency position indicating radio beacon EPIRB onboard, did not have enough personal flotation devices onboard, and was carrying expired flares.

The Blacktip escorted The Lady Aline back to Channel Islands Harbor.

The Coast Guard recommends boaters to equip their vessels with GPS, a marine VHF radio, and 406 Mhz Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon EPIRB.

The Coast Guard would also like to remind boaters that after Feb. 1, analog 121.5/243 MHz beacons will no longer be monitored by satellites and boaters need to replace them with digital 406 MHz beacons.
