MIAMI — The Coast Guard and Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission terminated three voyages in the South Florida area due to operators boating under the influence over Fourth of July weekend.
Coast Guard Station Miami Beach and Coast Guard Station Fort Lauderdale 33-foot Special Purpose Craft-Law Enforcement crews handled the cases near the Miami River and Bayfront Park and Port Everglades with assistance from FWC.
“Thankfully, nobody sustained any injuries due to the negligence of these operators, however being under the influence of drugs or alcohol while boating puts you and everyone around you in danger,” said Petty Officer 1st Class Emily Wilhite, command duty officer at Coast Guard Sector Miami Beach. “Boating under the influence is just as deadly as driving under the influence. We want everyone to stay safe while enjoying their time on the water.”
