Coast Guard Temporarily Relieves Cutter Mobile Bay CO

CLEVELAND – Rear Adm. John E. Crowley, Jr., commander of the Ninth Coast Guard District, has temporarily relieved Lt. Cmdr. Matthew J. Smith of command of the Coast Guard Cutter Mobile Bay.

Mobile Bay (WTGB 103) is a 140-foot ice breaking tug, based in Sturgeon Bay, Wisc., whose missions also include law enforcement, maintenance of navigational aids, and search-and-rescue.

“After a series of discussions with Lt. Cmdr. Smith, I have decided a change in leadership is necessary to ensure Mobile Bay is able to effectively meet future mission requirements,” said Rear Adm. Crowley.
