Coast Guard suspends search for two people missing near Chicago

CHICAGO – The search that began at approximately 3:45 p.m., for two females thought to be missing in Calumet Harbor was suspended, Monday, after the U.S. Coast Guard confirmed no one was missing.

A rescued man reported that two other people were onboard his personal watercraft when it capsized.

The Coast Guard crew later confirmed that only one other person was with him and she swam to shore.

Assets involved in the search included

  • A 25 foot Small Response Boat from Station Calumet Harbor
  • A 42 foot Utility Boat from Station Calumet Harbor
  • An HH-65C helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station Traverse City
  • Two marine units from the Chicago Police Department
  • A helicopter from the Chicago Fire Department
