Coast Guard suspends search for two people involved in plane crash

45 New OrleansNEW ORLEANS – The Coast Guard suspended the search for two missing people Monday at approximately 8:30 p.m., after a plane crashed in Lake Pontchartrain near Lakefront Airport with three people aboard.

Local emergency responders were able to locate the plane using side-scan sonar. A contracted salvage company is scheduled to salvage the fuselage of the plane today.

A good samaritan rescued a woman from the water Saturday evening and transferred her to a 45-foot Response Boat-Medium crew from Coast Guard Station New Orleans who then delivered her to emergency medical services.

The cause of the incident is under investigation by the Federal Aviation Administration.
