Coast Guard suspends search for Turkish man overboard 775 miles southwest of Kodiak

KODIAK, Alaska – The Coast Guard suspended its search about 11:57 a.m. Tuesday for a Turkish crewmember reported to have fallen overboard from the 626-foot Yasa Fortune 775 miles southwest of Kodiak.

Coast Guard Air Station Kodiak rescue crews conducted five sorties using an HC-130 Hercules aircraft while two good samaritan vessels conducted there own searches encompassing approximately 673 square miles.

The Seventeenth Coast Guard District command center in Juneau was notified of the missing crewman at approximately 2:15 a.m. Tuesday and issued an urgent marine information broadcast requesting the assistance of any vessels in the area. The Hercules aircraft was launched at approximately 3:55 a.m. from Kodiak.

Weather conditions at the time of the incident were calm winds and seas with one mile of visibility and 43 degree water temperature.

The Yasa Fortune is a Marshall-Island flagged vessel.
